Breaking The In-Game / Out-of-Game Barrier
GameSpy gave a session this past Thursday at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco entitled “Breaking the In-Game / Out-of-Game Barrier.”
We spoke about how important it is that you, the game publisher or game developer, to provide your users with an experience that extends beyond the couch. You want them thinking about your game even when they’re not actively playing it.
Get it right and your gamers become your salesmen. (Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution attributed 300’s spectacular opening to word of mouth marketing.) Get it right and you’ll have a rabid audience for your expansion pack or sequel.
Our technology and services, especially in the Community and Competition areas, can help you bridge the gap whether it is by accessing your buddy list from outside the game or viewing your stats on a web page.
We had a great turn out for the session. Over a hundred developers packed the room and many stayed behind afterwards to discuss ways to break the barrier. Thanks to everyone who was able to attend.
If you weren’t able to attend you’re in luck! We’ve just posted the presentation for everyone to enjoy. You can download it as a PowerPoint Show or view it right from your browser. (I’m sorry to report that the web version only works properly in Internet Explorer. So much for breaking that barrier.)
We love to talk about making games larger than life. Send us a note.
