The Nintendo Wii stormed online with Mario Strikers: Charged and football fans around the world roared in delight. The easy-to-use online service that Nintendo debuted on the DS in 2005 is back making it easier than ever to get online and compete head-to-head against your friends.

We were happy to play a part in bringing the revolutionary Wii console online with a little patented GameSpy Voodoo Magic.

Getting Online Is Easy

Just as on the DS, Wii players are able to choose to compete against one of their friends or an unknown Internet rival. After setting up game details and selecting a stadium, players can select opponents from their Friend Roster. Choose a friend to challenge and you're off to the races. They receive a match request and can accept, decline or accept with a guest on their console for up to four-player games.

Players can also choose to test their mettle against similarly skilled Internet rivals. Rather than blindly throwing users into a match the Wii intelligently selects an opponent of appropriate skill.

Matchmaking can be a power for good, you see.

More on competition and ranking in a bit...

It's Good To Have Friends

We feel that there's nothing more rewarding than playing with your friends. Nintendo does, too, so we are especially happy that the Friend Roster plays such a big role in Mario Strikers: Charged.

Building your Friend Roster is easy. Punch in your Friend Code and, once your friend does the same, you'll be able to keep a up with your mates' current Rank, number of wins, losses, and overall points.

With a list of friends in place all kinds of new opportunites arise. Challenge your friends to a friendly match. Make your leaderboards and rankings a little more relevant and that top spot a bit more achievable.

Magic? No. ATLAS!

So How Good Are You Really?

Mario Strikers: Charged makes use of Nintendo's Ranking System, built atop our Competition services.

Players are awarded points for wins and other actions within the game and their position on the leaderboard updated. Players can view data in a number of ways:

  • My Season Rankings
  • Season Leaders
  • My Daily Ranking
  • Daily Leaders
  • Friend Ranking

You also get to check out who the "Striker of the Day" is right on the main online screen. Each day the name and Mii of the highest scoring player is shown to gamers all across the land.

We're very excited about the depth of online play in Mario Strikers: Charged. If the first online game for the Wii is this good what better things are to come?

We love to talk about making games larger than life. Send us a note.
